Ax-shape Jade Plaque w/ dragon & phoenix motif, W. 5cm, H.

The design can be divided into three sections: The blade,
the guard and the handle. The blade has the shape of ax with
plain surface. The guard has low relief lines vaguely
expresses spirit’s face. The handle section is an open work of
dragons and phoenixes. Obvious archaic evidences include
cleaving veins, differential weathering and secondary crystals

Jade Plaque w/ motifs of dragon head and
ax,, Warring States, 7.5cm x 3.5cm
Made of Hotan jade of green tone, the calcification phenomenon
is seen the dragon head. The thin lines of auspicious cloud
confirms the genre of Warring States. Differential weathering
and cleaving veins are the archaic evidences which the artifact
has provided.

There are relief low lines which carry genre of Hongshan
Culture. In addition, the horizontal lines across the hole and
the irregularity of the surface inside the hole has proved the
man-madeness of the artifact. Diffusive markings, cleaving
veins, differential weathering and exposed crystals are archaic
evidences.

As a typical Hongshan Culture artifact,
this item has size relative bigger compared to those of the
similar ones available from existing publications. Apparently
seen on the simple design, this artifact has several spots of
manual work traces. In addition, differential wearing caused by
plant roots provides a reliable archaic evidence of this item.

abstract presentation of bird’s head for the handle. Secondary
